Despite the urge to stay indoors with rain and cold temps for summer weather, this weekend was insanely busy . Saturday I participated as a vendor for the Northwest Championships and marketed photo services to my new group of clients, professional figure, fitness, and bikini athletes. I LOVE the dedication these women put forth towards shaping their body and minds to achieve goals. Its amazing to say the least! I shoot model portfolios for them, some of which could be featured in Oxygen magazine soon. Fingers crossed!
Sunday was met with early anticipation and puffy eyes from the previous late night! 14 photo shoots back to back for the Save Fitness team. Tanji Johnson is the coach and founder of the team. She is an IFBB pro, previously an American Gladiator, and a positive force of womanhood. She's also and military brat like myself. From the minute you meet Tanji, she is 100% joy and excitement. I had the opportunity to shoot her in a bikini in Times Square, will blog that soon! Anyhow, here are some camera phone pics from the show and some behind the scenes from the shoot on Sunday in Tacoma. You would be surprised how comfortable these women are in less than ideal situations, fragments of clothing, and with lots of stares. They brush it off like nothing!

Here's a print for the ladies at Evolution Gym, you'll find it hanging inside their training facility. If you're in Bellevue and your diet needs a kick in the pants, stop by. Bring your inhaler!
What started with Boudoir Photography turned into something even more exciting. Shooting with professional and amateur athletes has taken over so many parts of my life! As a previous swimmer and track runner, sports definately held a big place in my life until I started my biz in 2005. Starting a business is all-consuming. It pulls you away for a couple of years, it can't run without you. Essentially it takes over your life. Can anyone relate? I miss friendly competition and sportsmanship that I used to get on the track and in the pool. My first athlete client in 2008 was Jen Turbull. She has since spread the word in the East Side and helped me reach a new group of people. Seattle is FULL of fitness competitors and health nuts. Who could have guessed?
The owners of Evolution hired me to shoot in Bellevue at their gym. They gave a description of photos that reminded them of old school gyms, no frills, dark lighting, raw dungeon-like setting. They were a blast to shoot for!

| Michelle used to me my size. I saw her "before" pictured and was speechless. These days she is a chiseled bad a$$! Her determination and positive thinking definately impacted me. Most of her friends at the gym say she is a tough girl, but here's what I witnessed, I think its Michelle's softer side. The rope was afterthought. It was laying in the corner and I asked her to get wrapped up in it.

| Had the opportunity to shoot with a great model named Daniel. I enjoy test shoots, no matter how hectic the schedule, its a good idea to get out and stretch your toes.

Wow, this blog peaked over 12, 000 hits on Easter weekend! Keep coming back for more! My goal is to have 20,000 followers by the end of the year, we can make it happen! Many of you have sent emails last week asking about my travel photography and destination work, so here goes!
Budget. Not something people like to talk about. Despite the dip in business for most everyone I know, my travel work is still lively and growing. Travel work can quickly fade if not carefully budgeted. I'm not what you call a frugal person by nature because cheap people annoy me. We all experience their wrath. They borrow gum all the time, bum cigarettes, forget their wallets at dinner, have a coupon for everything. I don't mind frugality, but there is a gray area where quality of life suffers. At the same time, challenges facing small businesses are a cross between budget and cost efficiency.
Keep in mind, the next time you're on the road, drooling at pricey airport cafes, HOW do you spend your hard-earned benjamins? Its easy to purchase little things at airports, not realizing how the dollars add up. I made this mistake many times. When it caught up with my bank, often times, I had sticker shock.
Thankfully, not long ago, at a dinner with travel savvy people, including a UNITED pilot and Rick Steves' HR Director, I asked for tips on HOW to pack on short notice. They shared their travel habits with me for domestic and international travel. We talked in great depth about it! For hours!
Clearly, there is an art to packing and travelling smart. I recall watching my grandmother stuff and already overstuffed suitcase to avoid extra fees. There are hundreds of ways business people can travel on a dime! I'm sharing with you how I save a few bucks in this line of business. Business travelers have very different needs than a tourist or hobbyist. Here is the first of many chapters in travel talk. If you have tips, feel free to share!

April's travel kit includes these 6 things. Read the WHAT and WHY below.
1. Waterproof CF holder. It floats, its waterproof, it should be in your camera bag!
2. SLIM ID card holder. Eliminate the need for carrying a purse! This slips easily into pocket, bra, sock or wrist band.
3. Batiste Dry shampoo. Gets rid of airplane hair. Available at local drug stores. Worth every penny!
4. Wisp mini toothbrush. This is ideal for the dentally forgetful. I've lost at least a dozen toothbrushes, Wisp doesn't replace, but ties you over for a bit.
5. Cucumber makeup wipes. Get rid of uncle fester eyes fast! Available at local drug stores.
6. Urban scarf. Can be used as pillow, blanket, dresses up any outfit, and keeps the body warm. Cashmere can be pricey, but well worth it.
All together, less than $50. Save money, travel smart.
