Sunrise on 10.22

SeaTac Airport

Landed late Wednesday night. The streets in NYC are teeming with people.

The most exciting thing in West Virginia.

Spending 48 hours in the sticks gave me much time for reflection. It was gorgeous, but incredibly empty. Felt good to just walk alone!

I'm finally back home, at least for a little while.  The return flight from JFK was hilarious, stinky babies, puking kids, anchovie-eating passengers onbard, people picking their nose and passing gas.  All I can say is that you can never bring enough hand sanitizer!!!  To top it off, when I walked in the house, it was freezing. Power and water were shut off and no one notified us! Consequently, the freezer was completely defrosted, juices from scallops, rasberries and 30lbs of other goodies ran together and soaked into the freezer for the last week. The smell is unbelievable. They said it was a mistake and got the water & electricity on by 7pm. I'd share more hilarious stories, but I'm off to restock the fridge and fill up on hand sanitizer. Peace and love!

Hello everyone!

You were wondering what happened, right?  Flew to NY to rack up frequent flier miles. The Big Apple held me captive for 4 days. Subways, taxis, and lots of walking was on the agenda. Lost a full dress size from the excercise! NYC is never a dull moment. The purpose was to visit Ray and attend the PDN Expo. Great tradeshow, got to see Jessica Claire, Susan StriplingScott Anderson, Rober DeNiro's double, and Cliff Maunter. PDN's expo was half the size of WPPI in Vegas. The crowd was older and smaller. PDN was good, but WPPI was better!

Stayed at a great Bed and Breakfast in Harlem. It was close to the historic Apollo and Malcom X street. Love the area, love the food. Met up with my new favorite person, Carina, at the Pegu Club. It was insanely fun. We downed cocktails and laughed hysterically into the night. Can't wait to shoot her wedding next year!

Ray joined me in Manhattan Saturday.  We tried to catch up on 3 weeks of snuggling. He's been working on the East Coast since early October. We totally hit it off like old times. Not in the mood for shopping, we cruised the Museum of Natural History and later, the Empire State building. Visited the Mecca of photography, B&H photo video store! Bought a Nikon pocket-sized camera.  My new Coolpix is the perfect travel accessory.  I LOVE this camera. We stayed in the Bronx our last night, visited Ray's family, ate delicious Puerto Rican rice and beans, then headed to West Virginia.  Passed through 5 states in 4 hours!. In the meantime, here you go.

Here's a sneak peek of Amber & Si's photo shoot in Seattle. They hold the record for most outfit changes. Ever. More photos coming soon! Thanks you two! It was a blast!

4 years ago I had no idea that photography would be my chosen profession. Much less, wedding photography. Here is my first booth. I think this was taken in 2004. This booth symbolizes the road less travelled. It makes me laugh. The AMG banner was a gift from Dale Hayen, a Nascar sponsor with a car-wrap graphics machine. It was the first public show of my work aside from the website. I did not book a single wedding that day.

Here is the work in progress today. Its a long way from completion! If anything, this studio saved me from going berzerk. Ray was tired of me crawling the walls at night. I had the classic cageyness associated with running a home-office!

Its not nearly finished. As you can see, there's an emptiness to it. There is painting to do. Pictures to hang. Carpets to lay. Wine to chill. Perhaps another 3-4 weeks before its fully functional. This is my first studio and hopefully not the last. Its a fun beginning to expand from home. I think the quote goes: its not the destination, its the journey.

What goals do you have for yourself? What dreams will you actualize before 2008 comes to a close? Don't kid yourself. You're capable. After searching for months the right place remained open just long enough for us to ponder, walk away, and eventually decide it was the right thing to do. Have you had this issue before? What happened?  Half of me thinks this is a crazy decision to open a studio in such a volatile economy. The other half races on towards the next big obstacle! So there you have it folks.

I'm dancing around, happy as can be!  My supposed  traffic violation to the tune of $150 was dismissed. Yahoo!  A looney tune ran into my car in June while I was parked at a red light. I was stood up for a photo shoot and while deciding what to do next, I cruised the boulevard looking for a snack. While trying to change lanes this lady rides on my tail. Seconds later, hits me! She hollers at me, saying that what I deserve for cutting her off.  With all the gear in my trunk it was a easy to shoot the scene of the accident. She called the cops. Cop takes both sides but hangs out with her for a long, long time. I got a ticket in the mail 2 weeks later. Of course that was not going to fly with me. I wrote a letter and included pics.  The judge dismissed the infraction. Now I can get Herbie patched up and looking beautiful again. To that crazy lady who ran into me:  you got served!

But what really irks me is on the first day I moved into the studio, the city dished out a parking ticket for $30.The crime: not turning my wheels on a hill. Nice welcome present!  So tell me, what's your most annoying traffic violation? Did you get screwed? Did you prevail?

I got my license at age 18 1/2. Late bloomer! In Germany the government's rules are complicated. They're more responsible on the road and require driving school. I gave the polizei a great show one night in Heidelberg, they pulled me over for driving with my knee, going 40km/h over the speed limit while passing in a blind curve, talking on the phone with one hand and applying mascara with the other. My excuse: i'm late for a date!
