the 'anti-workshop' in vegas |
03.22.08 | Misc

At last, a chance to debrief on the last 2 weeks...phew. So many things to share about this trip!
First & foremost I'm glad to be home and lay off the winged mileage plan for a few weeks. To leave the city of lights behind was pretty tough!!! Vegas is such a layered city: first the obvious layer of tourists, the layer of suckas gambling their 401k away, the winners, then the layer of locals & people who live & work in Sin City. Between rooming with 4 other ladies (Lea Reed, Lisa Robbins, Abby Rose & Lisa Kniola) , chilling at Main Street Station & Bally's, and kickin' with the Boutwells & the Coopers (from Alt F) there was never, ever, ever a dull moment!
40+ other photographers from around the world (Canada, Ireland, USA) drew close to jam out for this AntiWorkshop. I didn't shoot a whole lot, mostly soaking up the info instead of clicking away. Towards the end I picked up the camera and here's our last day of shooting. The set was Vegas' very own Neon Graveyard, all signs go to rest here. Lots of restrictions on posting photos, but from what I'm told bloggin is cool.
Color me happy to get a snapshot with these inspirational people. L-R (JMC, Me, Dalisa) Bottom pic (Me, Chenin)

| Here Chenin demonstrated her one-eyed willie version of shooting into the sun.

| Doug Boutwell here shooting like Elvis. Or like a rockstar. Josh Solar & Greg Bumatay in the background, two very talented guys. Lisa Robbins wayyy off to the left in the glasses. She turned 29 on this trip!

| Pinned against the fence JMC explained his fanciful shooting style.

| This is our nerdy version of Vegas fun. Photographers attacking each other downtown! Here we were creating a scene in front of the Bellagio hotel. Ohana photographer on the far Left, Caesar crouching in the red and the other people I can't really figure out who is who! I think Teddy is giving us a half-moon.

| You got to have this in Vegas.

| Wrapping up the last day or so Doug chats with us about his Speedotron lights.

Crazy places to shoot, most enjoyable group of people from diverse backgrounds. Overall, very enjoyable workshop.

Took these snaps at the KISS booth inside WPPI where thousands of photographers stormed Bally's for 3-4 days to soak up the latest & greatest wedding photography information. This booth was the first opportunity I had to sit down all day. So much for being serious....the little red hat profile is my favorite.

Snagged these two from Jared Wilson's blog. He was a classmate from the workshop. About 15 of us were having dinner when the film crew took over the scene. We jumped in as extras for fun! Here's Teddy & I walking back and forth during a take. The commercial is for a national ad of Miller Genuine draft with a similar scenario to the BK commercials.

Thanks Jared, I hardly ever get my photo taken dude!

HEY! I'm back in Seattle AND I actually have internet.
Considering Las Vegas has tons to offer, our hotel ranked below 1 star for wireless access.
It was rough. Withdrawals started kicking in, I scratched my arms, walked with a limp and rocked in a corner without Internet. Even sadder was the lack of blogging. Only kidding people....it was a treat not worrying about blogging because, hell, we couldn't get internet!
I'll post lots of funny pics later today and catch you up on some cool groovy stuff at WPPI 2008. YES it was work-related. Even the parties. Seriously.

Alright, alright. I admit at slacking BIG TIME with posting photos lately. Since arriving in Las Vegas, this place throws you into 6th gear and blaze trails around the clock, nevermind the distractions like shopping and sight-seeing...
Here are a few shots from the workshop, in case you didn't know, its the "Anti-Workshop" hosted by the Boutwells (Doug & Chenin) and Alt F (John Michael & Dalisa). This workshop spanned from Tues-Saturday, so much to absorb, too much to report.... Sunday beginsthe WPPI wedding photography tradeshow. Its my first year checking out the scene.

Been keeping it impersonal short & sweet with blog posts because there is SO much going on behind the scenes! Spring cleaning, time changes, airline excitement, easter bunnies, gym time....
On a very important note, I'd like to share my report of "Biotene" toothpaste. Its a new product I picked up at Safeway. You can buy it in most drugstores. For about a month I've tried to wean myself from chewing gum. The results are apparent in this very scientific equation:
no gum = cotton mouth
According to my usage [biotene = 3 x daily] reports show such a toothpaste actually remedies dry gums & replenishes "oral flora.' In fact, you could say its like 'Activia' for your mouth! Rather than show you a picture of toothpaste or dental things, here are a few new images posted to my website this evening.

March 4th = 2 months of new blogging.

Over the weekend my inner 'Bob-Vila' took over. The project was a MESS.....
