Congrats to Shelly & Steve!  They kicked off the party last night at the Canal downtown Ballard. Their guests boogied until the wee morning hours with AUSTIN BEAVER, the best DJ in Seattle! No shit. I can't say enough good things about him! As always, here's a few shots taken before the ceremony. We spent most of the afternoon down at the Locks. Thanks to my mucho-talented homegirl Kelly Chandler for stepping in and strutting her tail feathers with me all day. She posted some rad shots on her blog. I'm so jazzed for Shelly & Steve, they're too very humorous people, completely twitterpated, and always up for the challenge!

Here's a little story for you about our portrait session. People ask to hear about funny wedding stories, although I normally don't like to share, this one was too funny to pass up:

So..... Kelly & I are rockin out at the Locks taking pictures of Steve & Shelly while dodging flocks of people at this hot-spot. Everyone seems to enjoy catching a glimpse of the blushing bride & groom (all smiles). The scenery is perfect, a slight breeze in the air....Seattle is divine, Shelly & Steve are getting married!!!!! All of a sudden we're swarmed by tourists as we approach the waterfall. We pay them no mind and conduct our photo shoot while the bride & groom are busy smooching & kanoodling. The vibe is still good, the sun is shining, all is well.  It dawns on us that our group went from 2 photographers to 4 almost immediately. Most spectators took photos with their point-and-shoots, and kept walking. But 2 guys took it to the next level....initially they stood back and fired shots from the sidelines, but quickly moved in for closer shots. By moving in, I mean the tourist was so close I could smell his deodorant. The shorter of the 2 guys kept stepping into my shots. I asked him to give me elbow room, smiled and kept shooting. Notice, I didn't say STOP, only asked to give me space, right?  Well, neither responded. One guy raised eyebrows peeking over his sunglasses and  moved over enough to let me in. Initially it was funny. Then sorta odd. Then creepy. With their distractions, we jetted to new spot about 300 feet away in a lower-traffic area.  Seemed that we were back down to 2 shooters. We're ready to jam out once again and ride the photo-wave.

The die-hard camera guy FOLLOWED us. At some point while commencing to shoot, I give him "the eye." I send him female brainwaves that translate to things that I can't write here.  He doesn't flinch.

Again, its odd that he continues to shoot with us despite the fact that its completely WEIRD and borderline stalker-ish. After several minutes and nearly backing into him, the tension mounts exponentially as his shutter clicks rapid fire. The bride & groom become increasingly aware of the situation. Using our sharp wedding photographer wits, Kelly & I wrap around the other side of a tree attempting to foil his attempts to overtake our photoshoot. Going where no man has gone before, the tourist-turned-paparazzi leans over and shoots directly over my shoulder, which in turn, causes my internal alarm system to squeal like a pig, red flags waving like hell, the troops rear on their haunches. I ask AGAIN, more firmly, staring at him with big eyes, perhaps a little snarl, chest puffing out,  to give us a break.  Mr. Camera-spaz either doesn't speak English or is not familiar with 'talk to the hand" and continues shooting and shooting and shooting. Finally the bitch within pipes up without warning, and in a most assertive youpissedofftheweddingphotographeryoubetterstartrunning voice I barked: HEY WILL YA KNOCK IT OFF BUDDY? CAN YA LEAVE US ALONE BRO? GETTADDAHEYA!!! GIVE THESE PEOPLE SOME RESPECT! DO YA FREAKING MIND??!!  The groom chimed in with choice words at the same time. In a flash the tourist-paparazzi turned on heel and disappeared.

All was well again in the forest of love. Shelly & Steve returned to photo-bliss. They said "I do" at 6:30pm, it was a lovely, lovely day!

June 28th, today, is my birthday. I'm 28. Ray bought me a yellow cake with chocolate raspels and we are NOT working this weekend.  We love to entertain you with photos, but this is all you get for the weekend until we sober up. Hugs & love~ april, ray & kelly

For some wedding-blogstalkers you might be familiar with the website below........but for those who don't, now would be a great time to get acquainted!

Janie from "The Bride's Cafe" featured Mellicia & Justin's Union Station wedding today. You can see Janie's feature about their wedding  here.   TBC is  THE blog for the latest & greatest information, it is simply everything-wedding!  I'm so tickled that Catherine Conlin & Janie contributed to make this a great feature. I'm a big fan of Janie's blog (first heard about it from the Boutwells).

Yay! Its a great day~

Cashier: “Aloha, how are you today?”

Tourist: “Oh, I’m sorry, I don’t speak Spanish. Could you talk in English please?”

Cashier: “Hello, how are you today?”

Tourist: “Fine, we just flew here from America today.”

(The cashier rings up the tourist’s few items.)

Cashier: “That will be twenty five dollars and eighty five cents.”

Tourist: “Do you take American money here? I only have American money. I have not been able to get to the currency exchange yet.”

Cashier: “Ma’am, we are in the United States. We take dollars here.”

Cashier: “Yes, ma’am, those are dollars, and being a US state we do accept those.”

Tourist: “Well that’s very nice of you to accept foreign money.”

Cashier: *puzzled* “Mahalo, have a great day!”

Tourist: *under her breath* “I told her I didn’t speak Spanish!”
