meet avanie + sean, they flew in from denmark for this session. and the bridal shoot. and the wedding.  For those of you who heard about the couple that 'vaccuums together' this is the couple! They are just as adventurous and spontaneous as they look.  I'm not shitting you. Their energy levels are phenomenal. This couple kept me on my toes. The e-session was 95% photojournalistic.  In Avanie's words: Denmark is the shittiest small country in Europe.  She doesn't say much, but when she does, its to be remembered well.

Joe Buissink reminded us in a seminar once: 'followers like to be lead, leaders like to be followed.'   I had so much fun following Sean + Avanie. Following people is unusual. I like it.

As you can see by the sky....it was a typical Seattle day.  To the  non-Seattlite readers:  if you have the chance to shoot here, the clouds will be your friend. The effects offer some of the most eccentric lighting. Reflections bouncing off buildings, diffused everywhere.

A little break in the clouds...

Love Sean's wild 'man-hair.'

suggestive+ fresh.

held close to the ground

whoa baby.

Sean is talkative and physically expressive. Avanie is a good listener.

Such a beautiful exotic face.

she cannot stop smiling when he's around.
a happy wife = a happy life.

Sean + Avanie :Thank you so much for allowing me into your life as a photographer. It means so much to me to get up close & personal.
Wishing you many happy, happy years together!

Next up: i have no idea. there is a long list of weddings + e-sessions. keep coming back. thanx.

This week has flown by like a cellulite boomerang. Time went by faster than you can say <> What an exciting week. Sept. 3 begins a real-live 7 day vacation, the two of us are working the dickens to earn the time off. Sound familiar? My grandparents are coming in from South Carolina to visit us. We have to show them around the Emerald City.

I realized that I miss the helloutta Ray! Its been almost a month working opposite schedules. I can't wait for us to rotate on the same schedule! The last time we had a 'date' was before our favorite restaurant called 'Cafe by the Bay'  closed for good. Roughly 1 1/2 months ago. That's a whole different story, but basically the owners were petered out after several years of hard work. They loved their restaurant business and we loved their food! After 3 years, suddenly they sold it to live a more peaceful life. We understand it was for the best. Honestly, Tacoma won't be the same without our famous Cafe By the Bay!

This pictures is from our last visit to Gary's place, he's the man hangin out in the background. Gary is the kind of person I enjoy listening to. He has old stories, lots of history, character. Gary tells a real good story. The kind that takes you on a journey through hills and valleys. By the time he's finished and hit the punchline, you're completely absorbed and your plate's gone cold.

For those of you who check in everyday (all 10,000 of ya) I hope you won't mind too much if the blog is stagnant for about 1 week while we take time off and regenerate. But just like Gary & Hoa, taking 1 day off each week is not nearly enough. A small business will do that to you.  We're suckers for not taking it sooner. Its a mix of workaholic + devotion to those people who keep our lights on.

BTW: Have you seen the stats at the bottom of this blog? It began in january and already almost 300,000 views. Yahoo!

Have a safe and happy weekend. peace + hugs,  april & ray

As much as I'd love to post more personal photos, I don't often have the chance because of the workload lately...I hate posting pictures of myself on the web, too. Blech.

Here's the newest member of the family....Mr. Kyle!  I can't help but admire my baby sister's baby. I was excited to see my lil sis' beat me to the punch at both getting married & starting a family! She married a soldier & ex-firefighter named Kevin, they live together in KY. She sends new photos on a weekly basis while her hubby is deployed. Keeps us connected over the miles! While Kev is away she manages to keep the fort secured while taking care of 2 furry doggies, a cute little home and a very active toddler. Please welcome my little nephew!

He reminds me so much of my sister, its unreal! Same flaming strawberry blonde hair. Same big eyes. Exactly the same infectious smile. And of course,  a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. At the same time, I can see his dad's features in his face, a cute button nose and a sweet little chin. I don't know how my sister keeps up with a little tyke by herself, he MUST be a handful... look what he gets himself into!!!

WHO ME?

Poor dog. He seems to enjoy the company.

Kyle looks like the pope!!

They grow like weeds, don't they? Pretty soon he'll be in school, then dating, then going to college. Sheesh, time flies.

Kenny's still bigtime... he showed up at the studio arm in arm with the lovely Nicole.  I  *heart* their hats! Kenny's my favorite big man from Federal Way!!! Read his story here.   He's one of my best customers (since 2005), we lots of history shooting together both for his bodybuilding portfolio & for his personal art collection, keep an eye for him in the next edition of FLEX magazine!

Some old school portraiture felt right for these two~

someone was goofin' off  backstage. a funny little moment here...

The first pic looks very sweet, the 2nd shot makes me thingk she's giving Kenny a hard time.

I'm a fan of shooting outdoors, however Seattle weather being highly unpredictable as it is.......an indoor shooting space a must-have! Ray's busy with renovations building an even bigger & better space.

BTW: Its not too early to think about family portraits, boudoir photography and senior pictures before the holiday rush....

finally! here it is....

Sarah & Kurt gave 150% .  We shot an extended  e-session downtown, jammin' out in colorful places. Here we go: cool, sexy, & full of life! Their wedding takes place at the Aquarium in summer 2009.

Sarah admits to watching tons of  ANTM   !!!!  Me too. We love you Tyra!!!!   Miss Kelly Chandler helped out at this shoot, making beautiful sidelight for us...thanks lady!

Love that city lighting, its beautiful  & soft.

Kurt wore martini socks....they thought of everything!

smiling like a covergirl!

Like I said, they were game for anything... GUESS has a cool ad campaign, we used it for inspiration in this series...

THEY WERE SOAKED!!!!

Was it worthwhile?!!  They acted crazy  adventurous to jump in in the Space Needle fountain....at least no one was arrested.

Hugs,
April & Kelly

what kind of publicity is this? Spotted Dusty's pretty smile this afternoon but could not figure out what this means. How did this pic from our test shoot end up below?? Does anyone know what language this is or better yet, what it says?

I don't know who the publishers are, but I wonder how they can lawfully snag & print this photo without my consent? Or the Dusty's consent? Its great publicity for him, he has a great smile  and he's all over corbis (see www.motofishimages.com) , but seriously, snagging photos and printing w/out being legit is anti-mojo. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this happen to photographers (and models). Its just wrong.  Brrrrrrrrrr.....
